LSU football: Unusual, non-conference opponents in 2023
The 2023 college football season is slowly approaching, and the LSU football schedule is set. This year, the Tigers play a few unusual opponents.
LSU football’s 2023 schedule includes their typical slate of four out-of-conference opponents. However, this year, the Tigers’ non-SEC play includes brand new and ‘long time, no see’ schools. at Florida State Seminoles (in Orlando) on September 3
The LSU Tigers will play the Florida State Seminoles in Orlando to complete their two-year home-and-home series. In 2022, Florida State traveled to New Orleans to battle LSU football in the Superdome. Unfortunately, that game didn’t go the Tigers’ way after a blocked extra point with no time remaining. However, LSU fought until the last second, and the contest was a tone-setter for Brian Kelly’s first season in the bayou.
The 2023 game will be one of the best Week 1 matchups in college football and should rival their last meeting. LSU and Florida State are expected to be in the AP preseason top 10 rankings
Both teams are returning their starting quarterbacks and have Heisman aspirations in 2023. Jordan Travis and Jayden Daniels are amongst the best-returning players in the nation. They are explosive and experienced and should give fans one of the best quarterback matchups of the entire season.
LSU and FSU hit the transfer portal hard, ranking as 247’s fourth and fifth-best transfer portal class in 2023. The Tigers are looking to return to the college football playoffs for the first time since their magical 2019 season, and the ‘Noles are trying to return for the first time since the inaugural CFP in 2015.
This game has the potential to be the game of the year. Regardless, the LSU Tigers need the win. LSU is 2-8 against Florida State all-time. Their last win over the Seminoles was (1982) before many of us were born.
