The LSU Tigers bounced back from Sunday’s embarrassing loss to Florida and captured their 7th baseball national championship on Monday. Celebrate, we will.

The LSU Tigers baseball team overcame the haters, doubters, and odds to win the Men’s College World Series (MCWS) for a 7th time. The Bayou Bengals exercised their 2017 demons against the Florida Gators with Monday’s 18-4 win in Omaha. Moreover, Jay Johnson’s team captured LSU’s second college national championship in less than four months.

We worried that the LSU Tigers lost their mojo after Sunday’s 24-3 loss against Florida in Game 2 of the MCWS Finals. The Gators set multiple records and carried much momentum into the series’ final game. Florida fans did not hesitate to pump their tires.

Unfortunately for the Gators, the 2023 LSU Tigers baseball team constantly rose to the occasion when their backs were against the wall. We witnessed such after LSU’s loss to Wake Forest in the opening round at Omaha. The Tigers rebounded from their defeat to win three-straight elimination games and earn a final, three-game showdown with Florida.

The Gators were the hottest team in Omaha before the MCWS Finals. LSU handed Florida their first tournament loss, 4-3, in Game 1. The Gators stormed back in Game 2, punishing the Tigers in a 24-3 win. However, the LSU Tigers showed up to Game 3, destined to make a statement. They obliterated Florida’s pitching to the tune of 24 hits across nine innings.

Suffice it to say; many LSU Tigers pointed at their ring fingers after getting on base during Monday’s championship game.

In the postseason, LSU fans and pundits worried about LSU’s pitching rotation depth and bullpen reliability. Such concerns were valid, considering how both units were faulty down the regular season stretch and in the SEC tournament. However, while not perfect, the Tigers’ pitching rose to the occasion in Omaha in multiple games.

A lot of negative LSU fans will eat a ton of crow tonight. This season, everything from Johnson’s ability to manage the Tigers player’s attitudes was questioned. Nevertheless, the Bayou Bengals met preseason expectations and fulfilled their destiny.
