LSU football: 2024 recruiting class rankings update
By John Fye
The 2024 LSU football recruiting class has experienced some ups and downs. But how does Brian Kelly’s next wave of Tigers stack against college football?
Our last LSU football recruiting class update was a good one. On3 listed the Tigers’ 2024 class as 10th in the country with 11 commitments and a 91.502 composite score. Unfortunately, Kelly’s incoming class has taken a slight step back since.
The 2024 LSU football recruiting class is currently ranked 11th by On3 with a 90.575 composite score. Penn State is ahead of the Tigers with 21 players committed and a score of 90.819. Conversely, LSU is slightly ahead of Tennessee and their 15 commitments and 90.494 composite score.
There is plenty of action in LSU football recruiting despite the slight dip in rankings and scoring. 18 players are currently committed to play football in Baton Rouge including four-star offensive tackle, Ethan Calloway. The 6’7, 300-pound lineman from Lake Norman (N.C.), announced his pledge to LSU on Friday.
Recently, some LSU football fans were appalled by a string of 2024 de-commitments, including Zion Ferguson, Maurice Williams, and Tayvion Galloway. However, their departures have resulted in the Tigers dialing up efforts to secure other players. For example, LSU ramped up its recruiting efforts during Jalyn Crawford’s visit to Baton Rouge in June. The four-star cornerback reportedly departed LSU football’s facilities with a positive impression and much to consider as his commitment looms.
The 2024 LSU football class remains headlined by Tre’Dez Green, a four-star tight end from East Feliciana (La.). The 6’7, 240-pound Tigers’ commit is a top two player in Louisiana and ranked 68th nationally. Safety Dashawn McBryde from Denham Springs (La.), is 2nd on the LSU football 2024 commitments list. McBryde is the 5th-ranked player in Louisiana and 11th-ranked safety in the nation.
LSU football’s 2024 class currently includes 12 four-star and 6 three-star commitments.
The Tigers need a five-star recruit to headline their class and move it into the top 10 composite rankings. As such, LSU football remains the favorite to land five-star defensive lineman Dominick McKinley from Lafayette (La.).
