LSU football vs. Maryland football

Overall record: 0-3

First meeting: Oct. 27, 1951

Last meeting: Nov. 5, 1955

Last score: 13-0

It is (somewhat) embarrassing that LSU football is winless in three games versus Maryland.

The Tigers were shut out 27-0 against Maryland in their first game, down in Baton Rouge circa 1951. The Terrapins were the No. 5 ranked team in the country and cruised to 5-0 after the win over LSU football.

Maryland finished the 1951 season as undefeated (10-0) Sugar Bowl Champions after out-scoring their opponents 381-74. Moreover, five selectors crowned the Terps national champions, including the Sagarin, Dunken, and the National Championship Foundation.

Unfortunately, LSU football did not put up a better fight against Maryland in its second attempt in 1952. The Terps cruised to a 34-6 win in front of their home fans at College Park, Maryland.

Maryland shut out LSU football again in 1955 by a score of 13-0.

LSU and Maryland may lock horns again soon. The Terps appear on the upswing under Mike Locksley after spending most of their Big Ten tenure as conference bottom-feeders.

The programs are unlikely to meet in a future College Football Playoff, but we think a cross-conference scheduling agreement between the SEC and Big Ten is on the horizon.
