No. 5 LSU football beats No. 4 Alabama in overtime

Game: LSU Tigers vs. Alabama Crimson Tide

Date: November 12, 2005

Location: Tuscaloosa, Al.

Final Score: 16-10

LSU football went into a top-10 matchup in Tuscaloosa and came away with an overtime win during the 2005 season.

The Crimson Tide defense stymied the LSU football offense in the first half. The Tigers entered halftime with only five completed passes, 72 total yards, and a 10-0 deficit.

Thankfully, the LSU offense found their stride in the 2nd half.

The Tigers drove the ball 70 yards on their first possession following halftime. Justin Vincent’s touchdown run moved the score to 10-7. Conversely, the LSU defense took the field more stubbornly in the 3rd and 4th quarters.

With Alabama unable to move the ball, LSU tied the game 10-10 in the 3rd quarter. The score stood for the entirety of the game’s final quarter.

LSU football won the overtime coin toss and elected to start on defense. Alabama settled for a 34-yard field goal on their only extra-period possession. Then, the Tigers walked off the Tide when quarterback JaMarcus Russell connected with receiver Dwayne Bowe on a 12-yard pass in the end zone.

The win moved LSU to 8-1 and first place in the SEC West.
