LSU football embarrasses Georgia in the 2011 SEC Championship Game

Game: LSU Tigers vs. Georgia Bulldogs

Date: December 3, 2011

Location: Atlanta, Ga.

Final Score: 42-10

Our list of LSU football games worth rewatching is heavy on wins over the Georgia Bulldogs. As such, we close with an SEC title game romp of the Dawgs in 2011.

The 2011 LSU football season started and ended on rough notes. However, most of the year, the Tigers played some of their best ball in program history. Such includes beating up on 16-ranked Georgia in their home state.

Ironically, the Tigers’ box score from the 2011 SEC title game is deceiving. Jordan Jefferson led LSU in passing with five completions for 80 yards and a touchdown. Rueben Randle led the Bayou Bengals in receiving with two catches for 15 yards.

A majority of LSU football’s carnage was on defense and special teams.

Few fans will forget the game because it was arguably Tyrann Mathieu’s best as a Tiger. The ‘Honey Badger’ amassed 119 yards on four punt returns, including a 62-yard return for a touchdown. Moreover, Mathieu recovered a fumble that set up another LSU football scoring opportunity.

Mathieu was named the game’s MVP, thus, putting a bow on his Bednarik Award-winning season.
The win moved LSU football to 13-0 (8-0) on the year and guaranteed their trip to the BCS Championship Game, where a rematch with the Alabama Crimson Tide waited.
