The 2024 LSU football recruiting class is lingering at No.14 in the country, per On3. However, things significantly change if LSU wins Colin Simmons over.
Three months ago, we suggested LSU football must secure the commitment of 5-star edge rusher Colin Simmons. As of Thursday, we know the Tigers have moved closer to making such happen.
Simmons will make an official visit to Death Valley on July 28.
LSU football needs to make the most of Colin Simmons’ official visit and gain his commitment. Simmons is the elite high school player the Tigers need to headline their 2024 recruiting class. On3 ranks the Duncanville (Tx.) product as the top edge rusher and No. 5 overall football recruit in the country.
Currently, LSU football does not have a 5-star recruit in their 2024 class. Moreover, the next crop of Tigers has slowly trended in the wrong direction since our last update. On3’s composite rankings currently list LSU as No. 14 with a composite score of 90.39 (-2.39). Notre Dame (90.76) and Florida State (90.67) are ahead of the Tigers in 2024 recruiting class in the standings.
Colin Simmons took to social media and indicated his commitment is coming soon. As such, we hope recency bias combined with an outstanding visit with LSU football will prevail.
The Texas Longhorns are the Tigers’ most significant competition in the chase for Simmons’ commitment. The 6-2, 225-pound edge rusher visited Austin in June. Alabama and Texas A&M also remain in the hunt for Simmons.
Adding Colin Simmons to his 2024 class is the bump LSU football head coach Brian Kelly needs. As such, Simmons has the talent to headline the 2024 inbound Tigers the same as Harold Perkins did with the 2023 recruiting class.
LSU football has stepped up its recruiting efforts toward Simmons in recent months. Former Tigers assistant coach Jamar Cain led the efforts before departing for an NFL job in late May.
