Pundits painted Brian Kelly as a parody destined to fail after he migrated to LSU. However, his recent feat is the latest proof that critics were wrong.

Brian Kelly added another top recruit to his LSU football ‘fam-UH-lee’ this week. Linebacker Tylen Singleton committed to the Tigers over lucrative offers from Texas A&M, Tennessee, TCU, and Arkansas.

Singleton pledged to LSU football just ahead of this weekend’s Bayou Splash recruiting event in Baton Rouge. Ranked the No. 13 linebacker in the country, Singleton adds to Kelly’s class of talented 4-star (14) and 3-star (6) commitments.

Most importantly, Singleton further proves that Brian Kelly is doing what the doubters said he could not do in Death Valley.

How is Brian Kelly proving his doubters wrong?

Tylen Singleton is LSU football’s 14th recruit from the state of Louisiana. Moreover, Brian Kelly has recruited 9 of the top 12 football recruits from Louisiana to his 2024 class.

Such recruits include:

  • No. 3: Dayshawn McBryde, S (Denham Springs, La.)
  • No. 5: Trey’Dez Green, TE (Jackson, La.)
  • No. 6: Joel Rodgers, S (Saint Francisville, La.)
  • No. 7: Tylen Singleton, LB (Many, La.)
  • No. 8: Ja’Juan Johnson, CB (Lafayette, La.)
  • No. 9: Kylan BIlliot, WR (Houma, La.)
  • No. 10: Michael Turner, WR (River Ridge, La.)
  • No. 11: Kolaj Cobbins, LB (Destrehan, La.)
  • No. 12: Ahmad Breaux, EDGE (Ruston, La.)

There is more to come from Brian Kelly’s in-state recruiting this year.

The LSU Tigers are favored (83%) to gain the commitments of the state’s top player, defensive lineman Dominick McKinley. Cornerback Wardell Mack, Louisiana’s second-best recruit, is also expected (by 79%) to join LSU football’s 2024 class.

Remember when Brian Kelly was a “bad culture fit” for LSU?

Brian Kelly is figuratively wrapping up construction on a recruiting wall around the state of Louisiana. As such, we’re reminded of all the talking heads that went on record with assumptions that a native northeasterner would not succeed at recruiting in the southeast.

We’re pulling out the receipts.

Zach Ragan, A to Z Sports:

"However, the more I see from Kelly, the more I think he’s going to be an absolute disaster at LSU. I just don’t think he’s cut out for the SEC life."

Josh Chatham, Roll Bama Roll:

"I’m not sure that Kelly knows what he’s getting into, competing with the cutthroat recruiting in the south."

We could go on, including some video reviews, but it’s not worth the time and energy. Ultimately, LSU knew what they were getting when they made a 10-year pact with Brian Kelly. Kelly is among college football’s elite head coaches and recruiters.

In hindsight, Kelly’s achievements at Notre Dame were incredible, considering the universities’ (dated) culture and high standards of academic excellence. People that blamed Notre Dame’s shortcomings on Kelly during his tenure don’t get it.
