LSU football maximized their final opportunity to meet with recruits this summer with a bayou pool party. Such attracted the 2025 class’s top player.

We anticipated several major recruits would attend the LSU football Bayou Splash event in Baton Rouge on Friday. However, it was a surprise when the top high school football recruit for 2025 pulled into Death Valley.

On3’s Shea Dixon broke the news that Bryce Underwood surfaced in Baton Rouge with his family. The Belleville (Mich.) quarterback had visited LSU football twice in the past four months. Indeed, a third trip for the consensus top overall player for 2025 is a massive get for Brian Kelly and the Tigers.

Underwood is heading to his final year of high school, measuring 6-3.5’ and 205 pounds. Analysis across all recruiting outlets speaks of Underwood’s strong arm, quick release, and athleticism. He is a special player and arguably the best quarterback recruit since USC’s Caleb Williams.

Credit to LSU football quarterbacks coach and lead recruiter Joe Sloan for his work with Underwood. Sloan has established a rapport with the coveted recruit and has the Tigers well within the mix to gain Underwood’s commitment.

Sloan was recently recognized as a top 10 recruiter in college football.

Michigan is the early favorite to land Underwood’s pledge to play college football. However, such is the result of the Wolverines’ home-field advantage. Moreover, Michigan football is currently saddled with Jim Harbaugh’s four-game suspension because of recruiting violations.

Harbaugh’s constant flirting with NFL openings doesn’t help the Wolverines’ case, either. Regardless, Bryce Underwood opted to spend his final summer recruiting visit with LSU football. One can assume such signals the impression the Tigers made on the Underwood family.

Now, LSU football heads into an August 1-31 recruiting dead period. The Tigers and all football programs cannot host recruits except for 48 hours before home games.

Originally a member of the 2026 class, Underwood recently completed the studies required to graduate a year early.
