The expectations for Jayden Daniels are astronomical this offseason. As such, the LSU quarterback’s name surfaced on another preseason award watch list.

Topics regarding LSU football’s Jayden Daniels remain red-hot this preseason as fans weigh in with their expectations for 2023. Feedback to Daniels-related Death Valley Voice content indicates that most LSU fans believe the 5th-year senior is in for a big season.

It is also fair to say the media concurs.

We know this because Daniels is headlining every preseason award watch list dedicated to quarterbacks or offensive skill position players. The latest watch list involving LSU’s starting quarterback is the Davey O’Brien Award type.

Jayden Daniels is one of the 35 names appearing on the O’Brien Award preseason watch list released on Tuesday.

According to the press release, the Davey O’Brien National Selection Committee (NSC) handpicked the preseason list “based on career player performance and expectations heading into the 2023 college football season” Moreover, the award’s nominees “are required to have previously started at least one game at an NCAA Division I institution.”

USC’s Caleb Williams, North Carolina’s Drake Maye, Texas’s Quinn Ewers, and Oregon’s Bo Nix are high-profile quarterbacks on the watch list. Williams is the 2022 winner and likely favorite in 2023. However, LSU football fans are confident in Daniels’ potential to crash the Caleb Williams’ repeat campaign.

The LSU Tigers quarterback threw for 2,917 yards and 17 touchdowns in his first season in Baton Rouge. He also ran for 885 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2022.

The O’Brien Award is named for Davey O’Brien, a TCU quarterback that won the Heisman Trophy and Maxwell Award while leading the Horned Frogs to a National Championship in 1938. O’Brien was drafted to the NFL by the Philadelphia Eagles in 1939. He was a 2x All-Pro and NFL passing leader but retired after the 1940 season to pursue a career with the FBI.
