No. 3 – Auburn Tigers

Auburn is the first overrated team that comes to mind when I look at the 2023 LSU Football schedule. The other Tigers do not come into the season ranked, but there is no shortage of hype surrounding Hugh Freeze.

Freeze can recruit and has proven himself capable of building a competitive SEC team. However, we don’t know if he can do such without breaking the rules. Given his jaded past, it’s fair to label Freeze a dirtbag.

Auburn finished 5-7 in 2022, including 2-6 in SEC play. Their torrid performance effectively ended the Bryan Harsin era and led the Barners on a search for a proven winner. They landed on Freeze, a head coach more famous for his off-field transgressions than collegiate success.

Indeed, Freeze is still coasting off a pair of wins over Alabama while head coach at Ole Miss.

LSU Football played one of their worst games in The Plains last season but still won 21-17. The other Tigers bring back a majority of the same players in 2023. Moreover, they recently announced that Michigan State transfer Payton Thorne won their starting quarterback job.

Thorne’s QBR was 69.8 last season.

LSU Football welcomes Thorne and Auburn to Baton Rouge on October 14th.
