No. 2 – Trap game on the LSU Football schedule

The LSU Tigers are ranked No. 5 in both the coaches and AP polls. They are expected to be one of the top teams in the nation and compete for a national championship in year two under Kelly. However, I can’t ignore the trap games that linger within the schedules of every top team.

Last year, LSU Football was ranked 5th in the College Football Playoff rankings entering their game against the 4-7 Texas A&M Aggies. It wasn’t a game the Tigers should have struggled to win. Instead of struggle, Kelly’s squad buckled.

LSU Football allowed 38-points to an Aggies team that hadn’t scored over 30-points since their Week 1 matchup against Sam Houston State.

Suffice it to say that if LSU Football wants to contend for a national championship in 2023, they can’t fall victim to another trap game.

LSU’s first trap game of 2023 is against Ole Miss. The Tigers will travel to Oxford after playing a pair of SEC foes (Mississippi State and Arkansas) in the first three weeks. The Rebels have a high-powered offense and one of the best running backs in the nation in Quinshon Judkins.

Combine Judkins with a plethora of receiving threats, and LSU Football is staring down shootout potential in Oxford. The Tigers could be in for a rough night if they don’t travel to The Sip prepared to play.

Florida is the next trap game that I see on the LSU Football schedule. The Tigers will come home to play a pesky Gators team after traveling to Tuscaloosa to play Alabama the week prior. Florida had a disappointing 2022 season, but they have a ton of talent on their roster. If Billy Napier can get his boys right, the Tigers could fall victim to a trap game coming off a knock-down-drag-out fight against the Crimson Tide.

Finally, the last trap game on LSU’s 2023 schedule is Texas A&M.

Despite their struggles, Texas A&M still has a multitude of five-star players on their roster, and a knack for playing late-season spoiler. Jimbo’s boys will play out of their minds if they have the potential to ruin LSU’s College Football Playoff potential for the second straight season.
