SEC Football news that Louisiana’s No. 2 HS prospect committed to Florida yielded interesting reactions. As such, I’m confused by Gators fans’ tactics.

I posted on Facebook six days ago that Wardell Mack committed to the Florida Gators. The post was in reaction to the 2nd-best Louisiana high school recruit opting to leave the state. Indeed, I felt the young man was a perfect fit for the LSU Tigers. He chose to play in the worst part of Florida instead.

Either way, I wasn’t salty about the young man’s decision. Cue dozens of Florida Gators fans emerging from their double-wides to chime in.

“Napier is building an Army”

”Because Florida is the real DBU”

”He chose the real swamp”

The above are a few of the misguided responses I received regarding Mack’s decision and the state of the Florida football program. Also, a couple of bozos took shots at Brian Kelly’s ability to recruit and win big games.

Another poster sent me a photo of his bet that the Gators would win the 2023 College Football Playoff National Championship.

I considered that the trolls are out there, scouring social media for mention of their team. I cannot imagine wasting the time. Nevertheless, many Florida Gators fans believe their squad is sitting prettier than the LSU Tigers in year two of newer head coaching regimes.

Why?

Florida was 6-7 in Napier’s inaugural SEC Football season in The Swamp. Such includes a regular season loss to Vanderbilt and a Las Vegas Bowl drubbing at the hands of Oregon State. Conversely, the LSU Tigers won 10 games, including a 45-35 win in Gainesville, an SEC West title, and a bowl game in Kelly’s first season in charge.

Napier deserves credit for having the Gators sitting 2nd among all SEC Football recruiting classes for 2024. On3 lists Florida’s class as No. 3 nationally, with a composite score of 92.467. For comparison, LSU’s 2024 class is ranked 7th (91.280). However, I must throw caution to the wind on such a topic.

Sticking a feather in one’s cap before National Signing Day is silly. Modern-era recruits flip more than a Savanah Bananas outfielder when catching a fly ball. Thus, a school cannot truly celebrate a prospect’s commitment until the letter of intent is faxed over.

Florida will finish with a top-10 recruiting class, but they should; they’re Florida. However, any suggestions that the Gators are in a better place with Napier than LSU is with Kelly is…asinine.

Next. LSU Football has never played these teams. dark

I love the SEC Football smack talk and respect Gators faithful for their optimism, but we must remain grounded here on Earth.
