SEC Football: Ranking each of the conference’s starting quarterbacks
By John Fye
We ranked all 14 SEC Football starting quarterbacks. Find out where LSU football superstar quarterback Jayden Daniels lands on our list.
There will be a football game played on the Vanderbilt campus this weekend. However, for all intents and purposes, SEC Football is less than two weeks away. As such, SEC head coaches are letting the media know who their starting quarterbacks are for Week 1.
Some quarterback decisions are yet to be made. For example, we do not know who the starter in Tuscaloosa will be. Nevertheless, we ranked the quarterback most likely to start in every situation that has yet to be adjudicated by a head coach.
Without further adieu, we give you the Death Valley Voice starting quarterback rankings for 2023 SEC Football.
No. 14 – AJ Swann
Year: Sophomore
Team: Vanderbilt Commodores
2022 Passing Stats: 115 completions, 1,274 yards, 10 touchdowns
Credit to Ken Seals for sticking around Vanderbilt after losing his starting job last season. Typically, a demotion results in the player entering the transfer portal. However, Seals has battled AJ Swann for the starting quarterback job all offseason.
We still think the younger, more dynamic Swann will win the job.
Swann played nine games as a freshman in 2022 before succumbing to injury. He was a three-star recruit from Canton (Ga.) who remains on a steep learning curve. It doesn’t help that Vanderbilt plays Kentucky, at Florida, Georgia, at Ole Miss, Auburn, and at Tennessee in 2023.
