SEC Football: Ranking each of the conference’s starting quarterbacks
By John Fye
No. 1 – Jayden Daniels
Year: Senior
Team: LSU Tigers
2022 Passing Stats: 266 completions, 2,913 yards, 17 touchdowns
Most preseason media outlets listed Jayden Daniels as the best SEC Football quarterback for good reasons. Daniels was one of the most proficient passers of 2022, his first season leading the LSU Tigers following his transfer from Arizona State.
The graduate signal-caller started slow through the air and demonstrated some hesitation to air it out in Death Valley. However, such is not surprising in a new program with new coaches and teammates while learning a new offense.
Nevertheless, Daniels put the LSU Tigers in a position to beat Alabama and win the SEC West because of his mobility.
Daniels ran for 885 yards and 11 touchdowns on 186 carries last year. We expect the shifty quarterback to continue creating opportunities with his legs in 2023, but not as much. Indeed, we think Daniels trusts his receivers more this season and spins the ball downfield a lot more.
Either way, the most physically gifted SEC Football quarterback is the conference’s best.
