LSU Football: What in the hell was that!?
By John Fye
LSU Football was embarrassed by Florida State on national television last night. As such, I remain in a state of disbelief regarding the performance.
I emerged from the fever, chills, and mental haze that is common during COVID-19 infections just in time to see LSU Football kick off their new season. In hindsight, I wish my second bout with the infamous virus would’ve resulted in another early night of sleep on Monday.
Indeed, waking up to the final score would have caused me much less pain and anguish than I experienced watching the game live.
LSU Football, what the hell was that!?
I spent most of the offseason bragging about the continuity in Baton Rogue. The Tigers would benefit from bringing back the same head coach, offensive and defensive coordinators, and starting quarterback from 2022. Instead, LSU arguably looked worse in their 2023 opener versus Florida State than they did a year ago.
Jayden Daniels played his tail off despite some putrid play-calling. Albeit, the 5th-year starting quarterback made some interesting in-game decisions, including the infamous run during which he went airborne. Nevertheless, the improved passing attack I called for this offseason pulled a no-show.
Daniels threw for 347 yards on 37 attempts, but much of LSU’s passing volume resulted from a lopsided second half.
Brian Kelly has some soul-searching to do before he prepares his team for their next SEC game. The LSU head coach made some bold statements in the days leading up to his team’s Week 1 clash with FSU. However, the Tigers completely crapped the bed, and it felt weird.
There is no way LSU Football is this bad. Conversely, the Seminoles are good but not that good.
The sky isn’t falling, and there’s plenty of season left, but it’s impossible to feel good about what we saw of the Tigers on Monday.
