Lee Corso picking winners by donning their mascot’s headgear is a staple of Saturday mornings. As such, the College Gameday vet just made his latest pick.

Lee Corso donned the Longhorns’ headgear, thus signaling his prediction that Texas will defeat Alabama this evening in Tuscaloosa. In true Corso fashion, he faked an Alabama prediction with the playing of ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ before switching to the Texas fight song.

Desmond Howard agrees with Lee Corso and picked Texas, but Pat McAfee predicted an Alabama win. Kirk Herbstreit did not predict because he calls the game on ESPN with Chris Fowler.

NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Namath joined the College Gameday panel as their guest picker. As expected, Broadway Joe is rolling with his alma mater and predicted an Alabama win.

Death Valley Voice agrees with McAfee and Namath. Alabama appears more competent with play-calling on both sides of the ball. Their 2022 clash in Austin was similar to the last Alabama vs. LSU game in that a pass-happy approach to offense plagued the Tide. However, things are different in Tuscaloosa this year.

Nick Saban has thrown it back on offense and defense, employing a more run-focused approach emphasizing winning in the trenches. Texas has many dudes on their defensive line, but the Tide are fielding college football’s largest offensive line. Defensively, Alabama’s secondary and linebackers appear more fluent in coverage and quick to the ball.

Alabama played one of their worst games of 2022 against Texas and departed Austin with a win. We expect another nail-biter this evening, but Alabama will win in front of a raucous crowd at Bryant-Denney Stadium.

College football’s diehard fans know that Corso has picked the winner of the week’s primary college football matchup via headgear since October 5, 1996. It was then that the former coach donned the headgear of Brutus Buckeye.

The Ohio State crowd loved Corso’s pick and from there, an everlasting gimmick was born.
