Jayden Daniels soars to become odds on favorite to win Heisman Trophy

Jayden Daniels continued his way up not 2023 leaderboards, but all time leaderboards as he continues to compile one of the best individual seasons in college football history.

Daniels is fresh off completing 25-of-30 passes for 413 yards with six passing touchdowns while adding 96 yards on the ground with two rushing scores. He is now the odds on favorite to win the Heisman Trophy, out-pacing Oregon’s Bo Nix and Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. with one week left in the regular season.

The LSU quarterback is in a league of its own when it comes to his statistical case, but the team does have three losses and has not be relevant in the College Football Playoff conversation, the only knock on his case.

While the Heisman Trophy is typically reserved for an incredibly successful quarterback on a great team, Daniels may be taking down some typical notions about the award, joining the likes of Lamar Jackson and Robert Griffin III.

The issue moving forward is that LSU isn’t playing in significant games anymore, while Nix and Penix Jr. are right in the middle of the PAC-12 title race as well as the College Football Playoff race. All eyes will be on the west coast quarterbacks on Friday night (Oregon vs. Oregon State) and Saturday (Washington vs. Washington State) while LSU plays on Saturday afternoon, but Daniels could be in line for another big outing against a Texas A&M team that has little to play for.

It’s not a sure thing, but it appears that Daniels has the inside track at the moment, is it enough to hold up against more high profile players heading into the stretch run of the season? We’ll see!
