The LSU Baseball team heads into the 2025 season with a ton of hype as the Tigers' lowest selection in the Preseason Polls has been third. Part of the reason LSU's projected to be one of the best teams in the Country is their returning core with several pieces still on the roster from the National Championship team.
The bigger reason LSU is projected to go on a deep run this season is the incoming pieces. The Tigers add the Nation's top transfer class balanced with solid starting rotation arms and top of the order bats. As the LSU Baseball season approaches, these five incoming players are going to make massive impacts this season.
William Schmidt - Pitcher - Freshman
Amid Jay Johnson's frenzy of offseason moves, maybe his best move was getting William Schmidt to pull his name out of the MLB Draft in turn enrolling at LSU. William Schmidt was a projected end of the first-round pick which speaks to his talent and potential. The Tigers have a loaded rotation this season so William Schmidt may not start aside from a few middle of the week games but, he'll be a vital piece for Jay Johnson out of the bullpen.
Derek Curriel - Outfielder -Freshman
Along with getting William Schmidt to campus, getting outfielder Derek Curriel to LSU was massive as he was a projected first-round pick until late in the Draft process. This fall Curriel was incredible batting .388 and led the team with a .522 on-base percentage. Curriel can instantly step into the lineup and be one of the team's best hitters while also playing solid defense in center field.
Luis Hernandez - Catcher - Indiana State
This season, LSU turns to a new catcher and he comes via the transfer portal as Luis Hernandez transfers in from Indiana State. Hernandez comes to LSU as a force at the plate after batting .359 with 14 doubles, 23 home runs, and 76 RBIs. Hernandez can bat clean up for the Tigers behind Jared Jones and can help in replacing the production of Tommy White.
Daniel Dickinson - 2nd Baseman - Transfer via Utah Valley
Anytime you can add a legitimate leadoff batter via the transfer portal it's as big of a get you can land. The Tigers add Daniel Dickinson coming off of a season where he batted .363 with 14 doubles, 2 triples, 18 home runs, 53 RBIs, and 32 stolen bases which is a massive addition as he helps Jay Johnson in reshuffling the infield in addition to what he can bring to the lineup.
Anthony Eyanson - Starting Pitcher - Transfer via UC San Diego
The Crown Jewel of Jay Johnson's offseason was landing star pitcher Anthony Eyanson from UC San Diego. Anthony Eyanson slots in at an instant top of the rotation arm and could be the Friday Starter for the LSU Baseball team. Eyanson pitched to a 3.07 ERA in 2024 striking out 85 batters with just 24 walks.
