The LSU Football team has just one game left in the 2024 season as they'll take on the Baylor Bears in the Texas Bowl. The Bowl Games are always interesting as players declaring for the NFL Draft and the transfer portal leave the team with a vastly different lineup than you've seen all season long. The roster is also in a unique place as LSU's incoming transfers can't play in the game which allows other players a chance to shine before the transfers arrive. In the Texas Bowl, great games by these LSU Tigers could lead to further playing time next season.
Trey'Dez Green - Tight End
The Texas Bowl will basically be a showcase for Trey'Dez Green with Mason Taylor and Ka'Morreun Pimpton moving on from LSU. We all believe in Trey'Dez Green as a receiver but, that isn't LSU;s concern. The Tigers added Bauer Sharp because of his ability to be an in-line blocker something we didn't see Green do a ton of this season. In the Texas Bowl, Green is the only scholarship tight end available meaning he'll get to show the staff he can be an in-line tight end. If Green can prove himself as a blocker, the Tigers will more dangerous on offense as they can get Green onto the field more often.
DaShawn Spears - Safety
While LSU looks for external options to fill the holes at the safety position a few players on the roster will get their crack at filling the role during the Texas Bowl. All offseason, Spears pushed the veterans for playing time and earned plenty as a true freshman starting three games while appearing in 12 with 23 tackles and a pass deflection on the year. Spears his all the tools to be a great safety for the Tigers and a solid performance in the Texas Bowl could go a long way.
Chris Hilton Jr - Wide Receiver
It has been a long time since we last saw the LSU Football team but, when we last saw Chris Hilton Jr he beat Oklahoma's defense deep twice catching two passes for 85 yards and a pair of touchdowns. In the transfer portal, LSU brought in receivers Barion Brown, Nic Anderson, and Destyn Hill which has overshadowed Chris Hilton Jr. We saw Nussmeier and Chris Hilton build a ton of chemistry last year in the Reliaquest Bowl and given tha the transfers won't play in this game, Hilton can do it again.
Next season, LSU's wide receiver room will be absolutely loaded with all of the new additions as well as the returnees. Chris Hilton Jr continuing to find his game post-inj and continuing to build chemistry with Garrett Nussmeier could only solidify his position heading into the 2025 season.
Kaleb Jackson - Running Back
Heading into the season, we expected that Kaleb Jackson would lead the LSU Football team's rushing attack after he had a dominant camp. Instead, Caden Durham was the breakout star and Jackson got stuck behind Durham and Josh Williams. As Josh Williams moves on, Jackson will get a chance to shine against Baylor. If Jackson can prove to be that player we saw bowling over defenders in camp, he'll enter the season with a much clearer role as LSU adds two elite backs in Harlem Berry and JT Lindsey.
Javien Toviano - Safety
Last Week, Brian Kelly revealed that LSU had moved Javien Toviano from the star position to safety which is likely where he'll stick going forward. The Tigers have been active in the transfer portal looking for safeties but, the best options may be on the roster already. Javien Toviano has cornerback skills but, he has always been an impressive tackler which will help a ton at the safety position. If Toviano can carry his cornerback traits to safety, he could be the fix LSU has been looking for at the position.
