The recruiting landscape surrounding a college football program whenever a head coach is fired is always something to keep an eye on. Amid Brian Kelly's firing at LSU, fans immediately began wondering what LSU's 2026 commits were thinking. Are they going to decommit from LSU and head elsewhere? Or are they staying on board for the new coaching staff?

Brian Kelly is now giving LSU all sorts of issues with buyout negotiations

Even in the new era of NIL and the transfer portal, high school talent is still a major part of roster construction in 2025. According to 247Sports, LSU currently has the No. 12 recruiting class in the country for 2026. With Kelly gone, it's imperative that LSU keep its top players committed to the Tigers.

5-star prospect Lamar Brown remains steadfast in commitment to LSU

One player that LSU needs to prioritize hanging onto is No. 1 prospect Lamar Brown. Hailing from down the road at University Lab, Brown is rated by the247Sports Composite as the No. 1 defensive lineman in the country for the 2026 class. He is a highly-touted recruit who has been committed to the Tigers since July 10. Thankfully, Brown appears to be holding strong with his decision to attend LSU next season.

Brown has taken to social media on several occasions since Brian Kelly's firing to show his love for LSU. It's a welcome sight to see for Tiger fans, who are eager to see Brown on the field next season.

According to Rivals, both Texas A&M and Miami (FL) are "pushing hard" for Brown amid the Kelly firing. Brown was in attendance for LSU's embarrassing 49-25 loss to Texas A&M two weeks ago, and Aggie fans started chanting "We want Lamar" in the 4th quarter. Texas A&M was in the running until the 5-star recruit chose LSU, and Mike Elko and company are hoping they still have a chance at landing him.

However, Brown's latest post on X (formerly Twitter) makes it clear he is excited to be a Tiger. Despite not having a head coach, the No. 1 prospect in the country is still holding steady in his commitment to LSU. That shows just how great the LSU job is and how top talent in the state choose the program over the coach.

With that being said, it's still imperative that LSU nails its next hire. The Brian Kelly era ended without an SEC title or an appearane in the College Football Playoff. Tiger fans are ready for the program to compete for a National Championship again, and it all starts with hiring the right coach.
