Whenever a program signs a five-star recruit the entire fanbase wonders about how soon they may see that player on the field. While LSU finished the 2025 recruiting class with three 5-star recruits, the entire fanbase was infatuated with the Nation's top cornerback DJ Pickett who signed with LSU despite massive recruiting pushes by other schools.

As the LSU Football team has lacked the DBU level of defensive backs the past few seasons, Tigers fans were hoping that DJ Pickett could get onto the field early to make an impact on defense. As the Spring progresses, it looks more and more likely that DJ Pickett will be on the field week one against Clemson and he may be on the field as LSU's starting Quarterback.

5-star DJ Pickett continues to turn heads at Spring Practice

This Spring, DJ Pickett has shown why he was a 5-star recruit, impressing in camp with great showings against what could be the best wide receiver room in the Country. 24/7 Sports' Bryce Koon described what has been impressive from DJ Pickett this Spring on the "Ultimate College Football Show".

The LSU Football team added a ton of competition to the room that DJ Pickett will have to beat out this Spring to start week one against Clemson. Starting cornerback Ashton Stamps returned while LSU added transfers Mansoor Delane and Ja'Keem Jackson who both join the Tigers with starting experience.

The path to starting time for DJ Pickett isn't that crowded however, especially if he continues to add size heading into Summer camp. We've seen true Freshmen start at cornerback under Corey Raymond with the most recent example being the most similar case as Derek Stingley Jr started after joining the team in the Spring as the top cornerback in his class.

When you land a player as good as DJ Pickett, the best thing to do sometimes is to let them learn on the field. Pickett has all the tools to be a fantastic player for LSU as soon as he takes the field and if he carries his momentum into Summer camp he'll be one of LSU's starting cornerbacks.
