Saturday Night was the worst possible games that LSU could've played as the Crimson Tide dominated beating LSU 42-13 which actually felt worse as LSU scored a meaningless touchdown on the final drive against the backups. The Tigers didn't do anything well on Saturday Night and the stats showed it backing up what we saw on the field.
Here are five stats that standout from LSU's loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide.
8 Carries
In this game, LSU's offense struggled to create explosive plays while Alabama was creating them the entire night. LSU had just three plays that went over 20 yards, a 45 yard rush by Caden Durham, a 28 yard catch by Kyren Lacy, and a 26 yard catch by Mason Taylor. The Caden Durham run came on LSU's first offensive drive of the game and instantly it felt like LSU's offense came to play.
After Durham's massive run he only got seven more carries which is less than you'd expect considering how many explosive plays he's made for this team. Now for a long stretch of this game, Durham wasn't on the field before returning right before half time so he may have been dealing with an injury.
28 Minutes
Coming into this game, LSU needed to take advantage of Alabama's younger inexperienced secondary as Vanderbilt and Tennessee have. Instead the offense struggled passing the ball the entire first half. Right after the two-minute warning CJ Daniels caught his first pass of the night which was the first time a wide receiver caught a pass taking just over 28 minutes for LSU's receivers to get involved.
38 yards
Last season, LSU lost games because the secondary allowed a ton of massive plays often resulting in touchdowns. Against Alabama on Saturday Night, the LSU corners did their job against the talented duo of Ryan Williams and Germie Bernard. Alabama's starting trio of wide receivers were held to just 38 yards with running back Jam Miller accounting for the majority of Alabama's passing offense. Zy Alexander and Ashton Stamps did their job in coverage but, Alabama didn't need to pass when they ran all over LSU.
48 Carries
As a defense, if you can't stop the run you're going to be in big trouble and that's what happened to LSU's defense on Saturday Night. The Crimson Tide were having so much success running the football that they completely abandoned their passing attack and ran the football 48 times. When you allow a team to control the ball for that long and when you are on the field for that long its no surprise that the defense eventually broke down.
10 for 13
LSU struggled all night getting off the field on defense which is why the Tide ended up dominating this game. When LSU's defense did get the Crimson Tide into a tough spot the Tide always got out of it with a massive play. Alabama picked up 10 of 13 third downs which allowed them to continue drives before eventually beating LSU for touchdowns. There's no world where you can win a football game letting the opponent have as much success as Alabama did on Saturday Night.
