Aaron Murray disrespects Garrett Nussmeier in ranking the SEC Quarterbacks
This weekend the Regular Season in College Football and in the SEC came to a close as we are now onto Conference Championship games and the College Football Playoff. As the season has come to an end, we're going to see a ton of rankings whether it's of teams or of the players.
Former Georgia Quarterback Aaron Murray ranked his top 11 quarterbacks in the SEC and his ranking of Garrett Nussmeier was disrespectful to say the least.
Ranking Garrett Nussmeier 7th in the SEC is far too low even if he isn't the best quarterback in the SEC.
In terms of passing yards, Nussmeier's 3,735 yards is second only to Ole Miss' Jaxson Dart who has passed for 3,875 yards only 150 yards more than Nussmeier. Garrett Nussmeier's 26 passing touchdowns is only two less than Carson Beck's SEC leading 28 touchdowns but, Beck has one more interception. Nussmeier has completed 312 passes which is more than anyone in the SEC but, his 490 attempts is also the most.
Having Nussmeier ranked behind Quinn Ewers who hasn't had a great year while his fanbase has called for Arch Manning is a bit of a stretch. Jalen Milroe's dynamic ability makes him tough to rank but, as a passer his 15 touchdowns to 10 interceptions isn't the best of seasons.
Carson Beck and Nussmeier have nearly identical numbers so it's hard to rank one ahead of the other the same can be said for Jaxson Dart.
DJ Lagway is a great player and has shown a ton of promise but, he has passed for just 11 touchdowns with 7 interceptions which isn't a promising ratio. The same can be said for LaNorris Sellers who has passed for 17 touchdowns with 7 interceptions but, his rushing ability also is added upside.
At the end of the day, it wasn't a great quarterback year in the SEC
Overall, the SEC as a whole this year lacked the top end talents at quarterback like we've seen over the past few seasons with Heisman winners like Jayden Daniels and Bryce Young. Part of the reason why we're seeing SEC teams on the outside looking in for the College Football Playoff is because of the lack of elite quarterback play. The performances this season will likely lead to us seeing these quarterbacks return next season which should give us a higher level of play.
