The second true cycle of the transfer portal is in effect as players are using the five day window that has opened after they finished off their season with the Bowl games. As LSU looks to build out its roster for the 2025 season, the Tigers have been active in the transfer portal plugging away at needs. While LSU has been adding players that are instant plug and play pieces the other approach is adding long term pieces that could develop into starters.
One recent transfer portal entry could be one to keep an eye on for LSU as Alabama linebacker Sterling Dixon entered the transfer portal.
Dixon was a four-star recruit out of High School in the 2024 recruiting class, signing with Alabama. Before Dixon signed with Alabama, LSU pushed hard for Dixon at times being predicted to land Dixon and at other times being projected to flip him from Alabama. Often times, the best thing for recruiting in the transfer portal is being the school that finished in second place during the initial recruitment.
While Dixon was a linebacker at Alabama, LSU has a ton of linebackers returning and are bringing in an absolutely loaded class of linebackers in this latest signing class. Where Dixon makes the most sense for LSU is as an outside linebacker at edge rusher.
This offseason, the Tigers added three edge rushers in Patrick Payton, Jimari Butler, and Jack Pyburn but, none are truly options past this season. Given LSU's long term need for edge rushers, adding Dixon would make sense and if he sticks at linebacker, he can replace Xavier Atkins who transferred to Auburn this offseason.
