After picking up a massive win on Thursday Night behind an offensive explosion late in the game, the LSU Baseball team came into Friday Night looking to secure a series sweep. In this game the Tigers turned to the same gameplan they had last night getting a depth start with a solid relief appearance.

In the first inning two leadoff hits hurt Anthony Eyanson as Alabama drew first blood on a groundout. Eyanson then worked himself into a bit of trouble loading the bases with two outs but, got a massive strikeout limiting the damage to 1.

In the bottom of the third inning the LSU Baseball team showed up on offense to take the lead. Chris Stanfield singled and reached second on an error to start the inning and after Derek Curiel advanced him to third, Daniel Dickinson’s single tied the game. Jared Jones would then give LSU its first lead of the game as he doubled to right center.

The bottom of the order came through again in the fourth inning as Michael Braswell doubled and Chris Stanfield singled reaching second on the throw to third putting a pair in scoring position. Derek Curiel then came up big for the Tigers with a 2 RBI single giving LSU a 4-1 lead. The Tigers would then load the bases but, were unable to scratch another runner across.

The game stayed locked at 4-1 LSU heading into the 7th inning when Zac Cowan came on in relief of Anthony Eyanson who gave the Tigers a stellar start. Cowan came up unlucky allowing a two-out double followed by a single to make it 4-2 LSU.

The ninth inning started off with a scare as Cowan allowed the leadoff runner to reach on a double advancing him to third on a wild pitch with one of the best in the Country Justin Lebron at the plate. Cowan struck out Lebron before allowing a run to score on a sac fly which made it a 4-3 game. The Tigers then sealed the deal as Cowan got Bonomolo to fly out to short giving LSU the series win.

This game was Jay Johnson’s perfect recipe for success from pitching staff. Anthony Eyanso gave the Tigers 6 innings allowing just 1 run on 4 hits and 5 walks while striking out 12. Zac Cowan carried the Tigers to the finish line the rest of the way and while he allowed two runs which is rare he got the save.

The offense got a solid showing out of Chris Stanfield who went 4-4 at the plate scoring 2 of the Tigers runs. Daniel Dickinson turned in a solid game as well for the Tigers in the top half of the order going 3-4 with a walk.

After being swept last weekend, the Tigers desperately needed to win this series and they did with a chance to sweep on Saturday.
