In a move that doesn't come as a surprise, LSU cornerback Ashton Stamps has announced that he is entering the transfer portal. Stamps left the LSU Football program back in October shortly after Brian Kelly stated that LSU was trying to "protect" his eligibility by preserving his redshirt.

Tiger fans could see the writing on the wall that the statement likely meant that Stamps was looking to transfer out of Baton Rouge. The junior DB has now set that plan into motion by officially entering the portal.

LSU CB Ashton Stamps officially enters transfer portal
Over the offseason, Kelly and defensive coordinator Blake Baker revamped the LSU secondary by bringing in plenty of talent. Via the transfer portal, LSU brought in CB Mansoor Delane, S AJ Haulcy, and S Tamarcus Cooley, who all played huge roles for the Tigers this season. Five-star freshman DJ Pickett was also in the mix, seeing plenty of action during his true freshman season. Unfortunately for Stamps, that meant he was the odd man out in LSU's retooled secondary.
An in-state product hailing from Harvey, LA, Stamps saw plenty of action over his first two seasons in Baton Rouge. As a true freshman in 2023, Stamps appeared in 11 games making four starts and collecting 20 combined tackles.
Stamps then put together a strong sophomore campaign that saw him finish 3rd in the SEC with 14 passes defended. He started all 13 games in 2024, racking up 51 tackles and a pair of QB hurries. In addition to his heavy usage in the secondary, Stamps also accumulated 81 total snaps on special teams.
However, LSU's defensive overhaul this past offseason left Stamps watching from the sidelines early on in 2025. He left the program in October and is now officially in the portal. It will be interesting to see where he ends up. He has plenty of talent and experience to have an immediate impact for another Power 4 program.
