Back to Texas, LSU Gymnastics clinches third straight trip to NCAA semifinals

The LSU Gymnastics team is headed back to Texas for a third straight season as the Tigers won their 15th NCAA Tournament Regional Final. The Tigers finished the meet with a 198.050 score beating #8 Michigan State (198.00), #9 Kentucky (197.625), and #16 Arkansas (197.325) while the two top finished advanced to the NCAA Tournament Final.

The Lady Tigers started the meet on the uneven bars, where LSU put up a 49.450 team score. The Tigers' five counting scores were by Lexi Zeiss (9.925), Haleigh Bryant and Kailin Chio (9.900), Ashley Cowan (9.875), and Aleah Finnegan as well as Konnor McClain who scored (9.850).

The Tigers led the meet going into the second rotation, where the LSU Tigers took to the balance beam. Kailin Chio posted a career high 9.950 along with Aleah Finnegan giving the Tigers two massive scores. Kylie Coen posted a career high 9.925 along with the same scores by Haleigh Bryant and Konnor McClain. The Tigers' stellar 49.675 score on the beam was the highest in program history, breaking a record set in 2014.

The third rotation took the Tigers to the floor, where they posted a score of 49.575, which was the second-best score by the Tigers this season. McClain returned to the floor for the first time this season for LSU, scoring a 9.900. Aleah Finnegan posted the Tigers best score of the day with a 9.975 floor routine while Ballard and Drayton posted scores of 9.900 or better.

LSU took a lead into the final rotation with a 148.700 edging out Michigan State at 148.650 who was close behind the entire night. KJ Johnson, Amari Drayton, and Haleigh Bryant all posted 9.900's which was good enough to hold off Michigan State giving LSU the win.

After the meet, LSU Gymnastics Head Coach Jay Clark spoke on the Tigers' performance in an incredibly difficult meet.

The LSU Gymnastics team now heads back to Texas looking to defend their National Championship in a loaded field. The Semifinals will take place on April 17th on ESPN before the finals on April 19th on ABC.
