One of Brian Kelly's first moves in Baton Rouge was firing strength and conditioning coach Tommy Moffitt. A beloved figure by both fans and players, Moffitt had been at LSU since 2000. He served as the Strength & Conditioning Coordinator from 2000-2015 before getting promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Strength & Conditioning in 2016. He put together a legendary resume with the Tigers, which included helping build three National Championship teams under three different head coaches.
After getting fired by Kelly in 2021, Moffitt got a fresh start in College Station when Mike Elko hired him to be Texas A&M's Director of Strength & Conditioning in 2024. Saturday night was Moffitt's first visit back to Tiger Stadium with the Aggies, and the Texas A&M players knew how important the game was to him.
Tommy Moffitt gets revenge on Brian Kelly
Texas A&M picked up a dominating 49-25 victory over LSU to move to keep their undefeated season alive. A&M is 8-0 for the first time since 1992, and is firmly cemented in National Championship talks. Saturday's win was A&M's first in Baton Rouge since joining the SEC.
Speaking with the media after the game, it became clear that Texas A&M players knew how important the game was to Moffitt. Aggie QB Marcel Reed shared a story that during this week of practice, Moffitt brought in a tackling dummy that had Brian Kelly's face on it.

This one was personal for Moffitt. Thanks to an all-around overpowering performance from the Aggies, Texas A&M is now 2-0 against LSU since Moffitt arrived in College Station. Brian Kelly has preached the importance of bringing the physicality, but it was the Aggies who were the more physically imposing team on Saturday night.
Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko had the ultimate praise for Moffitt following Saturday's win in Death Valley. Speaking with the media, Elko credited Moffitt for the dominant second halves that Texas A&M has put together against LSU over the last two seasons. "Last two years in second half against LSU we outscored them 60-6. Says a lot about coach (Tommy) Moffitt."
Along with his trio of national titles at LSU, Moffitt has earned several strength & conditioning coach honors throughout the years. In LSU's historic 2019 season, he was named the FootballScoop Strength & Conditioning Coach of the Year. Following an undefeated season in 2011, he was given the College Coach's Choice Award by Strength Performance. Furthermore, he was the 2003 College Strength & Conditioning Coach of the Year by America Football Monthly.
Moffitt's revenge is just one of several noteworthy storylines following LSU's lopsided loss to Texas A&M. The Tigers have a lot of soul searching to do over the bye week before heading to Tuscaloosa to face Alabama on Nov. 8.
