The LSU Tigers are red hot on the transfer portal recruiting trail as everyday the Tigers are nabbing multiple transfers from Power Four schools. Tuesday gave LSU Wide Receivers Nic Anderson from Oklahoma and Destyn Hill from Florida State. Today brings more commitments as LSU lands defensive tackle Sydir Mitchell from Texas.
The Tigers got Sydir Mitchell onto campus Wednesday and it went well enough that Mitchell will now reunite with Bo Davis at LSU.
As a recruit, Sydir Mitchell was a four-star recruit ranked as the 226th ranked player in the Country, the 26th ranked defensive lineman, and the 3rd ranked player out of New Jersey. The reason Sydir Mitchell is looking at LSU is the same reason why LSU had such great success recruiting defensive tackles out of Texas this cycle, Bo Davis. Bo Davis was Sydir Mitchell's primary recruiter and now Davis will try to bring Mitchell over to LSU.
This season, Mitchell recorded just 4 tackles, one of which was a solo tackle with 7 total tackles in his career as he was stuck behind some talented defensive tackles.
The Tigers signed a massive recruiting class of defensive tackles but, it still is a position that could use some additions. LSU loses Gio Paez and Paris Shand who are out of eligibility to the NFL Draft while Jay'Viar Suggs was expected to comeback but, entered the transfer portal.
Mitchell now slots in on the defensive line next to defensive tackles Jacobian Guillory, Dominick McKinley, Jalen Lee, Shone Washington, Ahmad Breaux, and the incoming freshman class as the position goes from one that was a massive concern last year to a stacked room this season.
As the Tigers look to develop their defensive linemen, Mitchell's time at the College level will give LSU some help as a pass rusher and as a run stuffer with size on the inside. The new defensive staff has been on fire recruiting wise and this offseason we've now seen Corey Raymond and Bo Davis reunite with players they recruited at their last stop.
The Tigers have went out and added a ton of talent to the defense via the transfer portal adding Ja'Keem Jackson, Sydir Mitchell, Mansoor Delane, Jack Pyburn, and Jimari Butler all of which should be impact players next season.
