As Brian Kelly enters year four of his tenure as LSU's Head Coach, expectations are at an all time high after the LSU Football team loaded up using the transfer portal on elite talent. The additions paired with how the first three seasons have gone for Brian Kelly have fans feeling this season is College Football Playoff or bust for this team. Among those hoping for a College Football Playoff appearance is LSU great Booger McFarland.
The ESPN Analyst appeared on the Andy and Ari On3 Podcast on Wednesday where he talked about his expectations for LSU and his relationship with Brian Kelly.
Booger McFarland was talking about the atmosphere we all got to see with the home games in the College Football Playoff saying he often imagines what it would be like in Death Valley.
"You know what? I don’t want to imagine it. I want to see it, That’s what I text Brian Kelly all the time. Like, it’s time, you know. I don’t want to imagine."Booger McFarland
Andy Staples, Ari Wasserman, and Booger McFarland then discussed the state of the program following a 9-4 season. McFarland said he let's Kelly know where he stands and how he feels about the team all the time.
"He knows. Like, BK understands where he’s at, you know, every coach that comes to LSU, I tell them all the same thing: I’m loyal to the three letters, not to you. So you’re always going to get honesty from me because I am loyal to my program and I’m loyal because I want to see those kids and I want to see LSU be successful. So, when I text any of them, going all the way back to Les Miles and even now to BK, I text them, from a football analyst standpoint, what I see and it’s the pure honest truth."Booger McFarland
Booger McFarland did clarify that it's not always negative takeaways as he has liked some of the things Brian Kelly has done thus far.
"Sometimes it’s, ‘Hey, man, great job. I love how you did x, y, z’ or sometimes it’s, ‘You know what, this was poor. What you did, how we played, what we’re doing is not good enough."Booger McFarland
It's no surprise to hear that some of the former players are urging Brian Kelly to get the ship headed back in the right direction especially after this season. The Former Players coming to Brian Kelly with suggestions and constructive criticism will only help Kelly and will only make the current staff more urgent to turn things around. This offseason, Brian Kelly and his staff showed urgency landing a loaded transfer class but, we now need to see the staff at its best making this group of transfers gel as a unit.
