Brian Kelly and Joe Sloan on the verge of whiffing on local 5-star QB

Recruiting experts don't have LSU as the favorite to land Baton Rouge 5-star QB Elijah Haven.

The LSU Tigers have an exteme home field advantage in the recruitment of the top QB in the 2027 class. Per Rivals Industry, 5-star QB Elijah Haven is rated as the No. 1 quarterback in the country for the 2027 class, and hails from just down the road at The Dunham School in Baton Rouge.

Despite coming from LSU's own backyard, recruiting experts aren't expecting Haven to play for the Tigers. Instead, Rivals' Steve Wiltfong and Spiegelman have logged expert predictions for Haven to land in Tuscaloosa to play for the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Haven has been making the round this fall, making visits to some of the top college football programs on a weekly basis. He was in Baton Rouge earlier this season for LSU's 20-10 win over the Florida Gators on Sept. 13. The highly-coveted prospect has also visited Florida, Auburn, Penn State, and Alabama. Haven was in Tuscaloosa this past weekend to watch Alabama take down Tennessee by a score of 37-20. In addition to LSU and Alabama, Haven holds offers from Georgia, Florida, Auburn, Florida State, Miami (FL), and Ole Miss, among others.

Missing out on Haven would be a big miss for Brian Kelly and the LSU coaching staff. The 6'5", 215-pound gunslinger is described by 247Sports Director of Scouting Andrew Ivins as a "supersized quarterback with first-round pick potential." Haven is a strong pocket passer who can also make plays with his legs. Playing his prep ball right down the street gives Kelly and LSU a major advantage in his recruitment, but right now it appears as though it's not enough to land his services.

LSU fans are reaching a boiling point with Kelly and offensive coordinator Joe Sloan, and they can't afford to whiff on a local 5-star of Haven's caliber. These are the types of players that LSU has locked down over the years, and if Haven officially chooses Alabama over LSU, it won't do Kelly any favors.

As it stands, LSU's lone commit for the 2027 class is 4-star QB Peyton Houston. He is the No. 10 QB in the 2027 class and committed to the Tigers on Sept. 15.
