On Wednesday, LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier went down with an apparent leg injury during practice. Rumors swirled of a potential significant injury, but those were put to bed by members of the LSU media, who said Nussmeier was fine.
Then, LSU closed Friday's camp session to members of the media after it was initially scheduled to be open. The timing seemed peculiar, and college football fans wondered if it had anything to do with Nussmeier's injury situation.
After Friday's practice, Brian Kelly gave an official update on the status of the Tiger gunslinger.
. @LSUfootball Garrett Nussmeier has tendinitis in his patella. He does not have a torn ACL, #LSU Brian Kelly tells the media before Joe Sloan press conference. On a scale of 1-10, this is a 1.5 Kelly says.

Kelly stated that Nussmeier has patellar tendinitis in his knee. “On a scale from 1 to 10, this is a 1.5,” Kelly said.
Nussmeier was still throwing at practice today, which is a good sign. The LSU head coach doesn't expect Nussmeier to miss practice time. The Tigers will be back out on the practice field on Saturday.

Nussmeier's health is vital to LSU's success in 2025
For a team with SEC championship and national title hopes, getting Garrett Nussmeier back to Baton Rouge was a top priority for Kelly and his staff this offseason. Nussmeier has returned, and after throwing for over 4,000 yards and 29 touchdowns in 2024, he could be in store for a monster season.
Losing the senior QB would have been devastating for the LSU program, who is looking to reach the College Football Playoff for the first time under Brian Kelly. Nussmeier's health is vital to LSU's title hopes, and Tiger fans are relieved to hear that the injury isn't significant.
LSU's schedule hits heavy right from the jump. The Tigers are set to face Clemson on the road in Week 1 on Saturday, Aug. 30. LSU has a massive opportunity to put the country on notice with a win. From there, the Tigers host Louisiana Tech on Sept. 6 before beginning SEC play on Sept. 13 against Florida.
