LSU fans have reached a boiling point with Brian Kelly. LSU entered the 2025 season with hopes of competing for an SEC title and a National Championship, but instead now has three losses before the end of October. Playoff hopes are out the window, and Saturday's blowout loss to Texas A&M leaves the Tigers with a lot of soul searching to do over the bye week.
Now in Year 4, Brian Kelly is in hot water. He owns a 34-14 record at LSU, which includes a 19-10 mark in SEC games. He has been repeatedly out-coached throughout his tenure in Baton Rouge, and continues to fail when the lights are brightest.
Brian Kelly continues to fail against ranked teams
Following Saturday night's 49-25 loss to No. 3 Texas A&M, Kelly is now just 5-11 against ranked opponents at LSU. That is simply unacceptable.
Nick Saban, Les Miles, and Ed Orgeron all delivered national titles by Year 4 of their respective tenures in Baton Rouge. That's the standard that has been set at LSU. Kelly is nowhere near that right now. LSU has yet to appear in the College Football Playoff under Kelly, and has played in just one SEC title game. Kelly's best win at LSU came in his first season, and the wheels are quickly falling off in the 2025 season.
Saturday night was supposed to be an ideal bounce back spot for LSU. Both losses to Ole Miss and Vanderbilt came on the road, but now the Tigers were returning home to Death Valley to host a top-5 opponent at night. It presented a tremendous opportunity for the Tigers to right the ship and save their playoff hopes. But after taking an 18-14 lead into halftime, Texas A&M dominated LSU in every facet of the game in the second half en route to a dominant win.
Fans headed for the exits early, and the fans who stuck around began "Fire Kelly" chants. It was an ugly night in Baton Rouge, which leaves LSU with a lot of work to do over the bye week before facing No. 4 Alabama on the road in two weeks.
