Brian Kelly shares a heartwarming story about recruiting Will Campbell
When Brian Kelly was hired as the LSU Football team's Head Coach, the majority of LSU's recruiting class was committed but, the Tigers new head coach had to keep it in place. One of the pillars of LSU's recruiting class was Monroe native Will Campbell. According to 24/7 Sports composite rankings, Campbell was the 36th ranked player in the class and the 4th ranked offensive tackle.
When Brian Kelly first took the job as LSU's head coach one of his first visits was to Monroe to make his pitch to Will Campbell. A few years later, Brian Kelly and Will Campbell fly to Green Bay to see his NFL dreams come true.
Will Campbell ended up keeping his commitment to LSU and now he'll make program history as the first offensive tackle in program history to be picked in the first round. Campbell stuck to his commitment and instantly started at left tackle for the Tigers as a Freshman a role he'd hold for three seasons.
Campbell would break the mold becoming the first offensive lineman to wear the number 7 at LSU which holds high expectations. Campbell was the physical and emotional leader of the LSU Tigers and an NFL franchise will now get an elite left tackle and an incredible piece to build their franchise around.
