Brian Kelly shares his thoughts in the Post Game Press Conference following LSU's Loss
The LSU Tigers squandered a massive opportunity tonight as they now sit with two losses rather than taking hold of first place in the SEC. After the game, Brian Kelly shared his thoughts on how his team played and the outlook for the rest of the season.
Brian Kelly opened his press conference talking about the team's second half putting the blame on himself and his staff along with the players.
"We needed to coach better, and we needed to execute better in the second half."
- Brian Kelly
Brian Kelly was asked about Garrett Nussmeier's play and delved into the lack of a running game saying the Tigers don't give Nussmeier enough balance. LSU ran the ball 23 times on Saturday night but, picked up just 24 yards.
"We spent a lot of time on our run game. We should be better there. I don't think we give him enough balance, and it makes him vulnerable because he has to do so much."
- Brian Kelly
Kelly further spoke on the run game and how he thought it had made progress but, it hasn't saying the following:
"We thought we had made the progress against Arkansas and we didn’t see it come to fruition tonight."
- Brian Kelly
Brian Kelly spoke on his teams issues in the kicking game as the Tigers botched three field goal attempts hinting that a change may be coming.
"That's the second time that's happened...we'll make sure that never happens again, ever."
- Brian Kelly
When asked if he felt taking a second loss knocked LSU out of the mix for the playoff Brian Kelly remained firm that this team is still in the mix.
"We lost our margin. We have no margin for error."
- Brian Kelly
Finally, Brian Kelly spoke on what's next for this team after they suffered their second loss of the season
"Tonight was a bad half of football for us, and we'll go back to work on ourselves, and we'll work to play better football"
- Brian Kelly
This song is too familiar for LSU Fans
If you're an LSU fan, you're tired of hearing about lapses on defense and tired of seeing mistakes cost LSU giving them a second loss this early in the season for a third year in a row under Brian Kelly. At some point, Brian Kelly has to win these games, as he makes $9.5 million a year to do so. This team has to win out in the regular season to even have a chance at making the College Football Playoff now and what could've been a celebration tonight is now a disappointment.
