This season hasn't been a memorable year for the LSU Basketball team as the Tigers are just 13-12 on the year and 2-10 in SEC Play. While LSU hasn't had the best of years, one of the lone bright spots for the Tigers has been the play of transfer guard Cam Carter. The Donaldsonville Native returned to Louisiana after becoming a star at Kansas State to lead his Hometown Tigers.
The LSU Basketball team isn't nearly as loaded as it's SEC Counterparts this season but, Cam Carter has been one of the best players in the league and may have the most difficult job of any SEC Teams leading scorer.
Cam Carter ranks 7th in SEC Play with 17.3 points per game, 3rd among qualified 3 point shooters making 44.1% of his 3's, 9th in field goal percentage at 44.1%, and 5th in Free Throw percentage. The difference between Cam Carter and his SEC Counterparts is the attention he draws compared to everyone else.
Johni Broome has five teammates averaging double figures, Mark Sears has three teammates averaging double figures, Chaz Lanier has three teammates averaging double figures, and Cam Carter only has Jordan Sears averaging double figures.
Every game LSU plays, the opposing defense is doing whatever it can to prevent Cam Carter from getting a good look let alone touching the ball. The Tigers have no chance in any game where Carter has an off night and even when he has done his best the team has continued to struggle. In SEC Play, Carter has rarely had a teammate to turn to while his SEC Counterparts have arsenals at their disposal.
In the two games LSU has won, it's taken 29 and 27 point performances from Cam Carter and even those games came down to the wire for LSU. What will be forgotten is massive performances by Carter against Vanderbilt, Alabama, and Auburn where the Tigers weren't able to win.
Down the final stretch, LSU will face five top 25 opponents in their final six games as LSU looks to build any momentum and case for the NCAA Tournament. If the Tigers are going to go on a run and pull off any upsets, it'll start and end with Cam Carter leading the team. While LSU has struggled, Cam Carter has played like one of the best players in the Conference and should receive the honor of being an All-SEC selection.
