The LSU Basketball team came into Wednesday Night desperately needing a win amid a four game losing streak with a 1-7 record in SEC Play. Instead, the LSU Basketball game played out exactly how they have most of the year, the Tigers started the game off giving the opponent fits before everything turned the wrong way in the second half quickly putting the game out of reach.
The Tigers came out red hot from three as four of the starters combined to go 5 for 6 from three in the first five minutes of the game. If you were told before the game that LSU would make 9 threes in the first half you'd assume they were winning big, if you were told it took 18 minutes for the Tigers to get their first two point basket you'd assume they were losing by a wide margin, somehow the Tigers did both entering the half down 37-31.
The LSU Basketball team came out and battled to start the half but, a 5 minute stretch where LSU was outscored 16-4 truly gave the Tigers no chance at winning against a defense as talented as Georgia's. The Tigers fell in love with the three pointer after their early success and it quickly proved to be fool's gold as the Tigers made just 3 of their final 18 threes.
The biggest issue was on the inside as Georgia carved up LSU's interior defense while dominating the glass. Georgia won the rebounding battle 47-26 while Georgia grabbed 17 offensive rebounds to LSU's 8 offensive boards. The Bulldogs shredded LSU on the interior scoring 44 points in the paint while LSU couldn't find much in the paint scoring just 14 points inside.
Opposing defenses continue to focus on slowing Cam Carter and no one on the Tigers offense has been able to carry the offense. Jordan Sears led the team with 11 points but, he was just 4 for 13 from the field. Carter finished with 10 points on 2-7 shooting as it was impossible for Carter to ever even get the ball as Georgia did everything to ensure he wouldn't beat them.
The Tigers did do a better job cutting down on turnovers with just 12 in this game while Georgia turned it over 13 times but, LSU allowed more points off of turnovers than they scored.
The LSU Basketball team is now 12-10 and 1-8 in SEC which has completely changed how everyone feels about the team. As the losses continue to pile up there is going to be tough conversations about Matt McMahon as the same issues continue to haunt the Tigers. The schedule doesn't get any easier for the Tigers as they face 25th ranked Ole Miss this weekend.
