DJ Lagway will return against LSU giving the Tigers a familiar challenge
The past few weeks, Florida Gators freshman Quarterback DJ Lagway has been dealing with a hamstring injury. Lagway suffered the injury in the first half against Georgia leaving the game with a lead before Georgia came back. There was some optimism that Lagway would play last weekend but, he ended up missing the game. The LSU Tigers won't get the benefit of facing Florida's Third String Quarterback as DJ Lagway will play versus LSU.
We won't know how limited or how much the injury is affecting Lagway until the game kicks off which will determine how big of a challenge LSU is up against.
The true freshman has a massive arm but, its his ability to run which makes him a tough matchup for LSU. The Tigers have struggled mightily in slowing opposing dual threat quarterbacks as Marcel Reed and Jalen Milroe torched LSU's defense.
Lagway isn't as dynamic as a runner as Jalen Milroe or Marcel Reed but, when he decides to run he picks up some big plays. The difference is that when Lagway rolls out he isn't set on running like the past two quarterbacks LSU played but, he rolls out looking to extend passing plays.
Given the struggles LSU has had stopping the quarterback, it wouldn't shock anyone if LSU keys in on attacking the quarterback playing its safeties closer to the line of scrimmage. The issue with that approach is that Lagway will beat you over the top if you give him the chance.
Blake Baker's defense must make a stand this weekend
The past two weekends while the offense has had its struggles, the defense has done them no favors. This weekend the defense has to return to being an effective group rather than getting the offense into a shootout. The defense has dealt with injuries but, at this point in the season everyone has and the team needs to find a way to overcome them.
