After two nights with stellar performances from the pitching staff, the LSU Baseball team came into Saturday Afternoon looking to cap off a sweep over the 10th ranked Oklahoma Sooners. A week after battling back from a comebacker hitting him in the eye, Chase Shores took the mound with the luxury of a fully stocked bullpen behind him.

LSU got the scoring started in the second inning when the Tigers loaded the bases for Derek Curiel who put the ball in play and LSU got some luck as the Sooners second baseman made a costly error which allowed LSU to plate a pair.

In the bottom half of the second, LSU helped Oklahoma out this time as a passed ball allowed the Sooners to make it 2-1 LSU.

In the fourth inning, Derek Curiel remained red hot with a two out RBI Double to Left Field giving LSU a 3-1 lead. The hit marked Derek Curiel's 33rd straight game reaching base which set a new record for the LSU Baseball program.

From there, both offenses went quiet as the pitching staffs dominated with LSU taking the 3-1 lead into the bottom of the ninth. An error allowed Oklahoma to bring the tying the run to the plate and as Oklahoma moved the runner over, they were then able to make this a 1 run game getting both the tying and winning run on base. Zac Cowan was able to lock right back in getting in a favorable count before getting Oklahoma to fly out for the final out of the weekend.

Chase Shores gave LSU his best weekend start of the season, pitching 5 innings, allowing just one unearned run on 3 hits and 4 walks while striking out 4. Mr. Reliable Zac Cowan came in again and shut a game down, giving LSU 4 innings without allowing an earned run, surrendering just a pair of hits and walks while striking out 4.

The starting pitching was incredible for LSU this weekend as the trio of Kade Anderson, Anthony Eyanson, and Chase Shores combined for 19.2 innings pitched without allowing an earned run against a Top 10 opponent.

The Tigers now travel back to Louisiana to face off against Nicholls State on Tuesday before facing off against Auburn next weekend.
