The 2026 recruiting class for the LSU Basketball program has gained another name.

On Monday, it was announced that Australian pro Owen Foxwell has committed to Matt McMahon and the LSU Tigers. Foxwell is a 22-year-old guard who has played in the National Basketball League in Australia and New Zealand since 2021.

He is one of the NBL's best guards and all-around playmakers. So far this season, Foxwell is averaging 11.1 points, 4.5 assists, and 3.0 rebounds per game playing for the South East Melbourne Phoenix.

Foxwell is the fourth player to join LSU's 2026 recruiting class. Along with Foxwell, the class currently features 4-star SF Kevin Thomas, 4-star SF Herly Brutus, and 4-star SF Marcus Vaughns. Like Foxwell, Vaughns also hails from Australia, giving McMahon a pair of international recruits for his 2026 recruiting class.

LSU receives commitment from 22-year-old Australian guard Owen Foxwell

Foxwell has been receiving interest from college basketball programs for several years, and it appears that the potential to earn a high-paying NIL deal from LSU was enough to lure him away from Australia. However, the timing of his commitment to LSU is a bit peculiar.

In stories that have dominated headlines over the past few weeks, the NCAA is currently navigating eligibility issues for Charles Bediako and Amari Bailey. After playing in 45 G League games in recent seasons, Bediako played in five games for Alabama this season. However, he has since been ruled ineligible and has not played for the Crimson Tide since February 7.

Bailey is a former UCLA player who appeared in 10 NBA games with the Charlotte Hornets during the 2023-24 season. He is now exploring a return to the college ranks and seeking eligibility from the NCAA as he takes visits to potential suitors.

The landscape surrounding former professional players returning to the college ranks is certainly a story worth following. In Foxwell's case, he has never played collegiately and thus has a more simple path to playing for the Tigers. He will begin his freshman season as a 23-year-old, and figures to compete for LSU's starting point guard role in 2026-27.
