As LSU heads into a Week 3 matchup against Florida in the SEC opener, one player won't be on the sidelines for the Tigers. According to Shea Dixon of On3, Sydir Mitchell, a defensive lineman who is in his first season at LSU after transferring from Texas, is no longer with the LSU Football program.
Mitchell did not see any action in LSU's first two games of the season against Clemson and Louisiana Tech. According to On3 Industry Rankings, Mitchell was a four-star recruit in the 2023 class and spent the last two seasons at Texas before transferring to LSU in December.

Sydir Mitchell no longer on LSU Football roster
A redshirt sophomore, Mitchell appeared in nine game and totaled seven tackles with Texas over the last two seasons. Former LSU defensive line coach Bo Davis recruited Mitchell to Austin during his tenure with the Longhorns, and when Davis came to Baton Rouge, Mitchell followed a year later. However, Davis took the defensive line coaching job with the New Orleans Saints in February.
After not seeing any playing time in the first two games of the season, Mitchell's name has been removed from the LSU Football roster. So far this season, seven different defensive linemen have seen playing time at the two interior positions on the defensive line.
The LSU defense has shined so far in 2025 and looks much-improved from last season. The Tigers allowed just 10 points to Clemson and seven points to Louisiana Tech. The Tigers have recorded four sacks so far this season, and will look to put the pressure on Florida QB DJ Lagway this Saturday night at Tiger Stadium. LSU is favored by more than a touchdown, but the public is backing the Gators in large numbers.
