The Spring is a massive factor in determining whether a school like LSU will finish with a good recruiting class or one of the nation's best recruiting classes. The top recruits around the Country travel from school to school on visits trimming their lists of schools before setting up official visits for the Summer which may ultimately decide where the recruit commits.
Heading into the Spring, LSU holds the Nation's 3rd ranked recruiting class and the top class in the SEC but, the Tigers hold commitments from just six players meaning they'll have to continue landing elite players to keep that ranking as they build out the class. On Friday, one of those elite talents cut down their list to eight schools as safety recruit Cortez Redding is down to eight schools including the LSU Tigers.

According to On3, Cortez Redding is the 137th ranked recruit in the class, the 13th ranked safety in the class, and the 17th ranked player out of Georgia.
LSU already has one safety commitment from In-State star Aiden Hall who continues to reaffirm that he's committed to LSU and won't visit any other schools. One of the Nation's top safety recruits Blaine Bradford hails from Baton Rouge and has family ties as his brother signed with LSU last cycle.
Ideally, LSU will sign the duo of In-State stars and then look elsewhere for a third safety to continue bringing talent into a room that has been an issue for LSU. The past two transfer cycles LSU has looked in the transfer portal for starting caliber safeties and based on what LSU has seen its important for the Tigers to develop younger safeties.
The important thing for LSU now is getting Redding on campus for visits this Spring and Summer as it will determine whether or not LSU has a chance at landing Redding.
