LSU and Tulane have a rich football history of head-to-head matchups that dates all the way back to 1893. Donned "The Battle for the Rag," the game between the two Louisiana schools hasn't been played since 2009.
However, Tulane head coach Jon Sumrall wants to change that. In an interview with 106.7 The Ticket, Sumrall stated that he wants a shot at playing the Tigers.

Louisiana rivalry renewed?
LSU and Tulane first met on the gridiron in 1893, and played against each other nearly every year from 1911 to 1996. In total, the Tigers and Green Wave have met 98 times. The Tigers own a 68-23-7 lead in the series, and have won 18 consecutive matchups going back to 1983. In their last meeting, LSU earned a dominant 42-0 victory at Tiger Stadium on Oct. 31, 2009.
The winner of the LSU/Tulane game is awarded the trophy flag known as the Tiger Rag at LSU and the Victory Flag at Tulane. The flag features the Seal of Louisiana in the center, and is divided diagonally with each school's logo on opposite sides.
The two schools were members of the same conference three different times: the SIAA from 1899-1920, the Southern Conference from 1922-1932, and as charter members of the SEC from its inception in 1932 until Tulane left the conference in 1966.
While it would be entertaining to see the Tigers and Green Wave battle on the gridiron again, it seems unlikely to happen anytime soon. The two schools don't appear to be in talks of bringing the rivalry game back at this point in time.
Jon Sumrall took over in Uptown New Orleans following Willie Fritz's departure for the Houston job in 2023. Fritz led the Green Wave to a conference title and Cotton Bowl victory over Caleb Williams and USC in the 2022-23 season. Sumrall went 9-5 with a 7-1 AAC record in his first season at Tulane last season.
