The matchup between the No. 10 LSU Tigers and No. 17 Vanderbilt Commodores is just one of several games with huge CFP implications in Week 8. In the SEC, No. 5 Ole Miss visits No. 9 Georgia and No. 11 Tennessee visits No. 6 Alabama in what are also very intriguing matchups. In Nashville, the winning team between LSU and Vanderbilt has a chance to make a statement and move up in the AP Poll, while the losing team will suffer a second conference loss before the end of October.
The first SEC availability report for Saturday's matchup has been released, and a surprise name is on the report for LSU: LB Whit Weeks.
Whit Weeks listed on LSU injury report
Weeks has been banged up on several different occasions this season, but has mostly been able to play through it. However, he suffered a wrist injury against Ole Miss and saw a limited role against South Carolina last week. He is officially listed as "questionable" at this time. Further availability reports will be released later this week, and Tiger fans will be eager to see updates on Weeks' status.
Weeks is LSU's defensive leader and one of the top linebackers in the country. He received First Team All-SEC honors last season after finishing second in the league with 125 tackles. He was also named the SEC's Defensive Player of the Week on two occasions.
The LSU defense is at its best when Weeks is running around making tackles in all areas of the field. There are plenty of other playmakers that have taken the Tiger defense to the next level this season, but Weeks is a steady as it gets at the linebacker position. Hopefully he is able to get closer to 100% over the next few days and suit up against the Commodores.
