Five-Star Cornerback DJ Pickett Signs with LSU Giving Tigers Fans Reason to Celebrate
When LSU landed five-star defensive back DJ Pickett over Miami and Oregon it was a massive win for the Tigers but, it also held the thought that he may flip over LSU fan's heads everyday leading up to National Signing Day. The Miami Hurricanes never gave up and the looming threat of Dan Lanning's open check book from Phil Knight always gave LSU fans a reason to worry.
In the end however, DJ Pickett committed to LSU to be coached by Corey Raymond, and it was the reason he just signed with LSU.
This is massive news for LSU as DJ Pickett is the 6th ranked player in the country, the top defensive back in the class, and the top player out of Florida according to On3.
When Brian Kelly brought Corey Raymond back to Baton Rouge it was to bring LSU back to its DBU standard. In this recruiting class Raymon has laid the foundation landing the top defensive back in the class while he held a commitment from Kade Phillips a five-star cornerback until a late push from Texas. This weekend when LSU got Pickett on campus for his final visit, they called on Patrick Peterson to be the closer as he has a great relationship with the Pickett's and took the same path that DJ will.
The LSU Football team will lose starting cornerback Zy Alexander to the NFL immediately opening up a starting role at cornerback. The starting role is one we could see Pickett seize as he's got all of the talent and the measurables to be successful from day one.
The LSU Football team has now signed every committed recruit except for tight end Mike Tyler who flipped to South Carolina and wide receiver Derek Meadows who is expected to flip. The last signing to watch for is five-star offensive lineman Solomon Thomas who will announce at 4:00 PM Central Time and is expected to flip to LSU from Florida State.
