While team's like LSU will look to add instant impact players in the transfer portal, some times the best additions end up being the players that can impact a program for multiple years down the line if they can develop in the program. Mekhi Wingo, Jayden Daniels, Kyren Lacy, and Miles Frazier are all great examples of players who spent multiple years at LSU developing into key pieces for the Tigers.

A player with that same potential just entered the transfer portal and could be a target for LSU this offseason.

When Williams Nwaneri was a recruit last year he was the top edge rusher in the class, the 7th ranked players, and the top player out of Missouri as a Five-Star recruit. Nwaneri received limited playing time this season but, recorded two tackles and a sack while maintaining his Redshirt status.

Where Nwaneri comes into play for LSU is based on which coaches recruited him to Missouri. The primary recruiter was Kevin Peoples who was the edge rushers coach at Missouri at the time but, is now serving the same role at LSU. The secondary recruiter was Missouri Defensive Coordinator Blake Baker who is now LSU's defensive coordinator.

It'll be interesting to see what Nwaneri is looking for in his next program and whether he's looking to join the Coaches that recruited him, looking for immediate playing time, or if he's looking for a better NIL deal.

LSU could use a player like Nwaneri who could come in and compete for a starting job at edge rusher while at worst he could be a rotational piece that LSU develops over time. The Tigers will lose Bradyn Swinson, Sai'Vion Jones, and Da'Shawn Womack at edge this offseason so the Tigers will need to add numbers in the room.
