Former LSU running back Trey Holly is back in college football, this time playing for a different Louisiana school. Holly made his season debut for the Southern Jaguars on Saturday, orchestrating an impressive performance.
Holly rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries in Southern's 31-14 loss to North Carolina Central. He ran three times for 93 yards in the first half, which included an 80-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter.

Before coming to LSU in 2023, Holly shined at Union Parish High School in Farmerville, where he became one the most accomplished running backs in Louisiana high school history. The former four-star recruit broke the state's all-time rushing record (all divisions) with 10,523 yards during his prep career. He was ranked as the No. 17 running back in his recruiting class before enrolling at LSU.
As a true freshman in 2023, Holly appeared in three games for Brian Kelly's squad. His season was highlighted by a dazzling performance against Army in which he ran for 91 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. For his efforts, Holly was named SEC Freshman of the Week. On the season, he rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.
Holly was suspended from the LSU football program in February 2024 due to legal issues. He was arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, and aggravated criminal damage to property. All charges stemmed from a shooting that took place in Union Parish. The attempted second-degree murder charge was eventually dropped, but the illegal use of a weapon charge remained.
He didn't play college football in 2024, and began practicing with the Jaguars in July. After his strong performance on Saturday, Holly figures to remain a big piece to Southern's 2025 season.
Another former Tiger, QB Walker Howard, is also getting his chance at another Louisiana school. Howard will be the starting quarterback for the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns for their season opener against Rice on Aug. 30.
