On Wednesday, the spring transfer portal window opened up in college football creating a 10-day window where players across the Country can enter their names into the transfer portal. While the transfer portal is meant to find a permanent landing spot, more often than not it seems as if players are entering the transfer portal on a yearly basis.
As LSU brings in massive recruiting classes year over year, every recruit won't always be a fit or a long time piece at LSU as the Tigers always have another loaded recruiting class coming in. Some of the former Tigers often end up bouncing around in the transfer portal looking for a better fit.
Former LSU safety Ryan Yaites enters the transfer portal
On Friday, former LSU safety Ryan Yaites entered the transfer portal, transferring out of Cal amid their mass exodus.
This Spring has continued Cal's struggles in the transfer portal as the team has now seen 27 players enter the transfer portal since this Winter. The spring has seen Cal lose all 5 of its running backs along with its starting tight end.
Ryan Yaites signed with LSU as a four-star recruit out of Texas, playing in one season for the Tigers. As a Freshman at LSU, Yaites appeared in all 13 games, mostly on special teams, recording 16 tackles and one pass deflection. After his freshman season, Yaites decided to enter the Spring transfer portal leaving LSU while landing at California.
In his season at California, Yaites posted an identical stat line with 16 tackles and a pass deflection while starting at times for the Golden Bears. Following the season, Yaites is now in the transfer portal after going through spring camp. The most interesting part of Yaites transferring is the fact that he's now twice transferred in the Spring rather than the fall.
