Former LSU running back Josh Williams is one of the rarest underdog stories of the weekend. Despite going undrafted, Josh Williams will kick off his NFL career looking to prove everyone wrong once again signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Josh Williams continues his Cinderella story with the Tampa Bay Bucs
As a 2-star recruit in the 2019 recruiting class, Josh Williams walked onto the LSU football team serving as a scout team player for the 2019 National Championship team. During his Redshirt Freshman season, Williams became a piece of the team playing on special teams while rushing for 88 yards on 22 carries.
As a sophomore, Williams would become a bigger piece for LSU on special teams while also rushing for 107 yards on 23 carries. During his Junior season, Williams accomplished a massive feat, going from a walk-on to LSU's starting running back, rushing for 532 yards and 6 touchdowns. In 2023, Williams was once again a key piece of the Tigers' rushing attack, crossing the 1,000 yard mark for his career.
This season, Josh Williams checked off one more incredible milestone, gaining the honor of wearing the number 18 at LSU. Williams was a part of a two-headed backfield along with freshman Caden Durham. Williams delivered his best performance of his career against Vanderbilt, rushing for 90 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
While Josh Williams won't be guaranteed anything at the NFL level, he's been in this same situation before and emerged. This summer, LSU fans will all be rooting for Josh Williams to make the team, and based on his determination shown at LSU, he'll make a serious run at making the team.
